Hello, Everybody! I hope you're all doing well on this beautiful day! I have some fun things to share with you today: two poems, an acrostic poem from Edmund in 1st grade, and a found poem from Natalie in 6th grade. I love both these poems! Edmund did a great job rhyming, which is a really difficult thing to do. And Natalie created a really nice image. Natalie also shared a picture of her with her cousin. I'm glad she chose a warm day to dip into the pond! (Either that, or she's a polar bear ;) Parker from 3rd grade did a great job with last week's library assignment. He did a little research about a shark and wrote about how he'd take care of a shark if he had one as a pet. Pretty cool! (I'll stick with Miss Shell, though! No teeth ;) Thanks to Edmund, Natalie, and Parker for sharing! We can all feel a little less separated when we share what we're doing...so send me what you're up to. Be well! <3 <3 Amy Happy first day of May to you all! I asked students to write "found poems." Cut out words you like from a magazine or newspaper and re-arrange them into something that sounds interesting. It's kind of like doing one of those magnetic poetry kits...but all you need is an old magazine, glue, and paper. Our guest poets today are Brady from 3rd grade, Kingsley from 5th grade, and Miss Inger. (I love it when parents participate in their children's work! Very cool!) Thanks to all three of you for sharing! I hope everyone enjoys these poems as much as I do! Get outside tomorrow: it's going to be a beautiful day! :) xo, Amy Hello, Wildcats!
April is National Poetry Month, and I asked students to write different kinds of poems, such as shape poems, acrostics, and found poems. I received a picture of this excellent acrostic poem from Parker in 3rd grade. I love it because he wrote about something he loves -- baseball. That's a cool thing about poetry: it can be on any topic or idea in the world! I also love that Parker went the extra mile (extra inning?!) and made his poem into a great-looking piece of art. Way to go, Parker! Thanks for sharing your poem! I hope you all enjoy Parker's poem...and send your creations my way, so we can keep sharing this spring! :) Amy Hooray to Kingsley for getting the ball rolling yesterday! I've received several great submissions today. I hope you enjoy them all!!Tessa, a kindergartner, loves to look at interesting pictures on the Internet and then draw her own versions of them. On the left is a picture of the Miracle Gardens of Dubai, which is created from 45 million flowers, and on the right is Tessa's rendering of it. Tessa is an amazing artist! Thanks for sharing your artwork, Tessa! :)Brady, a third grader, wrote a great acrostic poem for library class. I love how he chose flowers as his word to represent spring...and his illustration is really nice, too! Thanks for sending this along, Brady! Great job! :) I know if you're anything like me, you're also missing our wonderful WRVS dog, Murphy! Luckily, Mr. Ligett (aka "Mr. Legit") sent this picture today so we can get a much-needed glimpse of Murphy! Mr. Ligett said, "Murphy is waiting for someone to read him a book." ...Hmm...I wonder if he'd like Pig the Pug?! ;) And last but certainly not least, Ms. Planck sent a picture of a needlepoint sampler she's made during the past week. It's not only beautiful, but it sends a message we all need these days. Thanks, Ms. Planck! Keep your blog submissions rolling in! It's so fun to see what everyone is up to!
