I heard about an exciting opportunity today: Comics Camp with Marek Bennett!! Marek will be coming to our school for a week in October (he was supposed to come last April). When he was at WRVS three years ago, the students who worked with him LOVED it! I strongly encourage you to look into this inexpensive, fun, online camp!

The state-wide results are in for this year's Red Clover and Dorothy Canfield Fisher Awards. The final winner for the Red Clover Award is Potato Pants. The final winner for the DCF Award is Small Spaces. The breakdown of total votes is below. (They wrote "Middle Grade Book Award" because there isn't a new name yet for the DCF Award...but that's what they're talking about.)

Good morning! Wow...I just realized that today is the last "school" day in May! How did that happen?! 

The Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF) has announced a really fun writing contest: details are below. I know many of you love The True Story of the Three Little Pigs  and The Stinky Cheese Man by Jon Scieszka in which he tells classic stories from an alternate point of view. That's what this contest is about! And there's a prize: a free collection of books!

If you need further information, email me. I hope some of you set your imaginations to work and try this contest! It could be really fun!

Good morning, you awesome people!

I'm so happy to share with you a really well-written and illustrated response to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It's by Annie in first grade, who's been reading the Harry Potter series with her family, illustrating scenes and writing about them along the way. Outstanding job, Annie! I love how your writing gives clear examples of why he's angry, and I love how your illustration shows Harry thinking about Ron and Hermione...and I see Hedwig's cage in the background -- great detail! Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I'm a big Harry Potter fan, too, as I know many Wildcats are!

Hello, Everybody! It's been a quiet week on the blog. I think (I hope!) everyone's been too busy enjoying the weather to email me their work. If you get a chance, send something on. 


Meanwhile, I have a couple announcements. First: MISS SHELL HAD HER 7th BIRTHDAY THIS WEEKEND!! That means she's the same age as our 1st graders! I wonder if she's learned how to read and do math like they do! :)


Second: you're going to be receiving a FREE BOOK from the Children's Literacy Foundation. It should arrive next week. Watch for it! Please take a picture of you holding it and send me the picture. The generous people at CLiF want to see pictures of you with their gifts!

Third: you can now request books online! If you go to the home page, just click on "click here to request a book," and fill out the form.

Hello, Everybody! I hope you're all doing well on this beautiful day!

I have some fun things to share with you today: two poems, an acrostic poem from Edmund in 1st grade, and a found poem from Natalie in 6th grade. I love both these poems! Edmund did a great job rhyming, which is a really difficult thing to do. And Natalie created a really nice image. 

Natalie also shared a picture of her with her cousin. I'm glad she chose a warm day to dip into the pond! (Either that, or she's a polar bear ;)

Parker from 3rd grade did a great job with last week's library assignment. He did a little research about a shark and wrote about how he'd take care of a shark if he had one as a pet. Pretty cool! (I'll stick with Miss Shell, though! No teeth ;)

Thanks to Edmund, Natalie, and Parker for sharing! We can all feel a little less separated when we share what we're doing...so send me what you're up to.
